mIRC-LJ v2.2.0 released [Jan. 30th, 2001|06:09 pm]

mIRC-LJ v2.2.0, complete with friends monitoring support, is now available from the mIRC-LJ site. It's also on its way to BradFitz for putting on the LiveJournal clients page.

There are no other new changes since version 2.1.0, but since friends page monitoring is optional it's a recommended upgrade even if you don't indend to use this feature.

Right now I'm writing mIRC-LJ's friends page monitoring support, ready for inclusion in v2.2.0. This news entry will actually serve as a test post. :)

Look out for a release real soon now.

I've uploaded version 2.1.0 to the mIRC-LJ site. I'm not going to send it to BradFitz just yet, as he's busy with various things it seems. If you want the update, snag it from the mIRC-LJ site for now.

Version 2.1.0 is coming [Jan. 9th, 2001|11:37 pm]

Yesterday and tonight I worked on mIRC-LJ some. It started off being a really minor bugfix release (version number +0.0.1) but then I noticed some big stuff that was slightly odd about the old verson, and it became a minor release (+0.1).

I can't really be bothered to package it up and upload it though tonight, to be honest, so I'll do that tommorrow maybe. It fixes a few things that probably went unnoticed anyway, but deserved fixing such as it 'leaking' variables (it should be storing almost everything in its ini file now, but it was still letting some global variables leak out that shouldn't have been.) and also it wasn't sending the clientversion correctly, so it's not showing up in the stats or anyone's 'clients used' lists!

There is a larger problem which I've still not managed to fix. It won't cause any bother since I've worked around it, but I'd like to figure out what is going on. The protocol driver script on the server doesn't appear to be 'seeing' the first character of the stuff I'm sending, and this is what caused the missing clientversion problem. I've got around the problem by sending a meaningless variable at the start so its that that goes wrong, not the stuff the server wants to see... but that's not the best solution. My local faked protocol driver sees what I'm sending wholly, so I don't know what's going on. Any ideas people? :)

Version 2.0.0 released [Nov. 22nd, 2000|10:59 pm]

Version 2.0.0 of mIRC-LJ is now available for download from the mIRC-LJ site, and soon it should be on the LiveJournal client download page.

Here's the new features list straight out of the docs:

  • Complete recode from scratch (other than the GUI!):
    • Now much more modular
    • More easily expandable to make addition of new features in the future easier.
  • Length limit bug fixed.
  • Now supports "Current Music" with auto-detection
  • "Strip Newlines" replaced by "Don't Autoformat", which sets the metadata flag rather than just removing the newlines at client-side.
  • Added support for disallowing comments to a specific entries.
  • Added HTTPinfo plugin

I decided not to implement the multiple userpic feature yet, but to wait until the mood selection stuff is implemented since they are related functions.

Music Detection [Nov. 20th, 2000|01:06 am]

In a spare hour I found this evening I did the music detection code for the Current Music feature. I changed the planned order slightly: It checks mIRC's internal mp3 support first, then WinAmp (if you install a special plugin for WinAmp so it can tell mIRC what it is playing), then mart!mp3 (mp3script for versions of mIRC before the internal mp3 support was added) and finally !mp3script and anything else that you can convince to store its track details in the %mp3file variable.

New LJ features [Nov. 19th, 2000|04:51 am]

New todo list items:

  • Support multiple userpics. This one won't be too hard to implement in 2.0.0, but would have been hell to do in 1.x... such is life :)
  • Work out what's going on with those dynamic web menus (I'm not exactly sure what they are for yet) and possibly act on that. The word "recursive" in the protocol mode documentation makes me think that this might not happen since recursiveness in mIRCscript isn't nice.

2.0.0 already has support for not allowing comments to entries, so that doesn't need to be added.

A todo list of sorts [Nov. 15th, 2000|05:09 pm]

This is better. I now have access to post here from my own account! :)

mIRC client is coming in a few weeks, hopefully. No time to do anything to it this week, but hopefully next weekend I'll get the remaining features implemented and get a proper release done.

Features that are planned but not yet implemented include:

  • Music auto-detection, using mIRC's internal mp3 player, my own mp3 script, and finally WinAmp if an appropriate WinAmp plugin is installed.
  • Proxy support: it's been a long time coming.

The beta of 2.0.0 is still available on the mIRC-LJ site.

Beta version, baby! [Oct. 27th, 2000|09:40 pm]
mIRC LiveJournal Client

There is a beta version of v2.0.0 on the site now. It is pretty much complete, although the music detection code isn't in there yet.

If you decide to try it, please let me know of any bugs, odd things or troubles you find when using it. Also note that the documentation hasn't been entirely updated for this new version yet, so some things in it may be outdated.

I thought I'd make this account, because writing mIRC client stuff in my personal LiveJournal was a little odd.

Whenever something significant happens to the mIRC client, I'll write about it here.
